SHRA Dive Team:

Our SHRA Dive coaches look forward to working with your kid(s) this summer!  We welcome divers of any age 18 or younger (by 6/1) who are able to independently swim to the edge of the pool after jumping off the end of the dive board in the deep end.  We are committed to your kid’s safety and teaching them all they need to know to be successful and have fun!

SHRA Dive is part the Northern Virginia Swim League (NVSL).  There are 8 dive divisions of 6 teams each that compete in dual A-meets each Tuesday night for 5 weeks, as well as some championship meet opportunities.  However, the NVSL is mostly a developmental league committed to teaching the basics of the sport so kids may learn skills to be safe while using the board.  To encourage this, along with competitive opportunities, we also offer B-meets for kids to learn how to “perform” in meets.

The NVSL is completely run by volunteers who are passionate about the sports of swimming and diving, so WE NEED YOUR HELP!  First, you should attend one of the dive judge clinics offered, regardless of your intention to judge.  These are designed to educate parents/guardians about this sport so you may understand what is happening at your kid’s practices and meets.  The judge clinics are listed below.  Next, you should volunteer to help with the meets.  There are many tasks other than judging or being a referee: announcing, writing & calculating scores, preparing ribbons, set-up/clean-up, etc., all of which may be learned on-the-job.  For dive, only a referee requires certification which is a 2hr training once you have judged at least one A-meet.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact your Dive Rep (dive@shrasharks.org)
