SHRA DIVE TEAM Our SHRA Dive coaches look forward to working with your children this summer! We welcome divers of any age 18 or younger (as of June 1st), and children who want to join the dive team need to be able to jump off the side of the pool in the deep end and feel comfortable. Coaches have several strategies to help your child enjoy and learn the sport of diving. We are committed to your child’s safety and teaching them all they need to know to be successful and have fun on the dive team! SHRA Dive is part of the Northern Virginia Swimming League (NVSL). There are 9 dive divisions of 6 teams each. The 6 teams in each division compete in dual A-meets each Tuesday night for 5 weeks, as well as some championship meet opportunities. *Practice for Divisional Divers July 14th-18th: 16 divers are selected by Coach Tom based on certain requirements (see below). *Practice for All-Star Divers July 21st-25th: This is determined by divisional results. “A” MEETS Up to 32 divers will be notified if they are eligible for the meet that week. The list of divers can change each week. Dates for “A” dual meets are below. Please note that divers will be expected to arrive early for the meets to warm-up. Home meets: 4:00pm/Away meets: 5:00pm. It’s an opportunity for divers to learn and increase their knowledge about a competitive dive meet. All divers who participate in a “B” meet cannot have finished in the top 3 in an “A” meet. Thursday, 6/19/25 6pm vs. Wakefield Chapel (AWAY) (4627 Holborn Ave Annandale) Thursday, 6/26/25 6pm vs. Crosspointe (AWAY) (8275 Glen Eagle Dr, Fairfax Station) Thursday, 7/10/25 6pm vs. Lee Graham at SHRA (HOME) ADDITIONAL DIVE OPPORTUNITIES FOR SELECT DIVERS Wally Martin 3M Competition Sunday, 7/6/25 @ Oakmont Recreation Center. This meet is for select divers who train year round on a 3M as part of a USA Diving Team. CrackerJack Championships Sunday, 7/13/25 @ Ravensworth Farms. This meet is for any diver who has not exceeded the cut-off score for CrakerJack. This cut-off score is determined by NVSL and each age group event has its own cut-off score. Coach Tom will send out a google form to determine interest in participating in this meet. Please be aware that if your child exceeds the cut-off score before CrakerJack, they will not be allowed to participate. Instrasquad Synchro Meet Thursday, 7/17/25 @ SHRA. This is a meet with just the SHRA dive team. It’s a great opportunity to have some synchronized diving fun. Divisionals Sunday, 7/20/25 @ Fairfax (4200 Roberts Road). Sixteen divers are selected by Coach Tom to compete in Divisionals. Divers who are selected must have competed in at least two “A” dual meets during the season. Divisional divers have an opportunity to qualify for All-Stars based on results. This brings together the top divers from our division. NVSL Synchro Meet Tuesday, 7/22/25 @ Vienna Woods (109 Harmony Dr SW). This meet is an opportunity for synchronized diving competition across all of the divisions. All-Stars Sunday, 7/27/25 @ Hunt Valley (7100 Sydenstricker Road). Based on results of divisionals, divers can compete in All-Stars. This brings together the top divers from NVSL. READY TO REGISTER? Coach Tom encourages “A” meet boy divers to wear a speedo (jammers are ok, but a speedo is preferred.) The SHRA suit is not required for dive practices. SHRA team suits can be purchased from Sport Fair in Arlington. They will have a pop-up shop on June 1st from 5-7pm @ SHRA. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED! The NVSL is completely run by volunteers who are passionate about the sports of swimming and diving, so WE NEED YOUR HELP! First, you should attend one of the dive judge clinics offered, regardless of your intention to judge. These are designed to educate parents/caretakers about this sport so you can understand what is happening at your child’s practices and meets. Next, you should volunteer to help with the meets. There are many tasks other than judging or being a referee: announcing, writing & calculating scores, preparing ribbons, set-up/clean-up, etc., all of which may be learned on-the-job. For dive, only a referee requires certification which is a 2 hour training once you have judged at least one “A” meet. Schedule for trainings: Sunday 6/1 9:45am – meet/table worker clinic at Overlee. Sunday 6/1 10:30am – judges clinic at Overlee. Wednesday 6/4 6:30pm – referee clinic at Overlee. Saturday 6/7 1:00pm – referee clinic at Hamlet. Tuesday 6/10 6:30pm – judges clinic at Chesterbrook. Thursday 6/19 6:30pm – judges clinic at Sleepy Hollow Bath and Racquet (SHBR). To volunteer for a meet, please download and use the Band app. We will be using this app this season for all communications and for all sign-ups.
